CHRONIC PAIN REHABILITATION
Born out of a desire to do the utmost to assist those patients most in need, Empower Physiotherapy’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation program is based upon the most up to date evidence which recognises that chronic pain is an additional and distinct pathological process, with its own specific signs, symptoms and causes.
Rather than label clients or put such cases in the “too hard basket,” the physiotherapists at Empower Physiotherapy utilise this up to date knowledge to target the multi-faceted nature of chronic pain, and to empower those suffering with chronic pain to not simply manage their pain, but to learn strategies which can help reverse some of the changes that perpetuate this debilitating condition.
Each session is run in small groups (though some clients prefer to start their progression in a 1:1 capacity) which promotes both a social support network, and facilitates an improved understanding of how chronic pain has consistent features across all people combating it. In each session, clients will be guided through:
- Education regarding the nature and behaviour of chronic pain
- Relaxation and meditation techniques to calm the “noisy” chronic pain brain
- “Competitive neuroplasticity” strategies to reverse dysfunctional neuroplastic changes
- Active exercise tailored to the individual on any given day
- Encouragement regarding pacing of daily activities and the importance of recognising some of the silent impacts of chronic pain
…and if you don’t understand some of the technical jargon there, don’t worry – teaching our clients’ all about all these things is probably the most important and most effective thing this program delivers!
If you are sick of the constant drain your chronic pain is having on your life, Empower Physiotherapy’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation program will give you the tools you need to take back control.
