There are multiple options including 1:1 and 2:1 sessions for increased privacy, as well as our popular group sessions – but all programs involve in depth assessment and reassessment, and programs are individually tailored based on these assessments.

All of the physiotherapists at Empower Physiotherapy are trained in DMA Clinical Pilates -the next step forward in the evolution of traditional Pilates into a science and evidence based mode of low-impact exercise that optimises the brain-body connection to improve postural control, strength, balance, mobility and function. If you want to function better in all aspects of life, Clinical Pilates at Empower Physiotherapy is the answer!

Our exercise rehab classes are suitable for anyone who wishes to:

  • Work towards specific weight loss or fitness goals in an evidence based and professional environment;
  • Complete active exercise in order to assist resolution of a soft tissue injury;
  • Do some pre-operative conditioning (called “Prehab”) to prepare for upcoming surgery (for example, prior to joint replacement surgery)
  • Undertake a rehabilitation program to optimise recovery following surgery (such as after a rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, or joint replacement surgery).
All classes are supervised by a qualified physiotherapist, and each participant will be assessed and provided with an individualised program tailored to their specific needs.

The range and type of exercise is similarly varied in order to be able to address the needs of each individual client. All aspects of our gym may be utilised – with commonly used activities including Clinical Pilates on our reformers or trapeeze, cardiovascular work, mobility and stretching, resistance training, balance and agility work and sports or function specific training.

Empower Physiotherapy’s hydrotherapy sessions continue to make an enormous contribution towards helping our clients optimise their physical wellbeing. A wide variety of clients are able to perform exercises they would otherwise not be able to due to pain, immobility, weakness, or safety concerns by exercising in an environment of buoyancy.

These sessions are suitable for anyone who needs to:
  • commence active exercise in order to assist resolution of a soft tissue injury
  • participate in some pre-operative conditioning (called “Prehab”) to prepare for upcoming surgery (for example, prior to joint replacement surgery, or
  • undertake a rehabilitation program to optomise recovery following surgery (such as after a rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction, or joint replacement surgery).

Hydrotherapy is often utilised to enable clients to build the necessary base to progress to an appropriate program in the Rehabilitation Gym setting. In addition, some of our clients enjoy hydrotherapy as an excellent long term management tool they utilise regularly to maintain their physical health and fitness.

Born out of a desire to do the utmost to assist those patients most in need, Empower Physiotherapy’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation program is based upon the most up to date evidence which recognises that chronic pain is an additional and distinct pathological process, with its own specific signs, symptoms and causes.

Rather than label clients or put such cases in the “too hard basket,” the physiotherapists at Empower Physiotherapy utilise this up to date knowledge to target the multi-faceted nature of chronic pain, and to empower those suffering with chronic pain to not simply manage their pain, but to learn strategies which can help reverse some of the changes that perpetuate this debilitating condition.

Each session is run in small groups (though some clients prefer to start their progression in a 1:1 capacity) which promotes both a social support network, and facilitates an improved understanding of how chronic pain has consistent features across all people combating it. In each session, clients will be guided through:

  • Education regarding the nature and behaviour of chronic pain
  • Relaxation and meditation techniques to calm the “noisy” chronic pain brain
  • “Competitive neuroplasticity” strategies to reverse dysfunctional neuroplastic changes
  • Active exercise tailored to the individual on any given day
  • Encouragement regarding pacing of daily activities and the importance of recognising some of the silent impacts of chronic pain

…and if you don’t understand some of the technical jargon there, don’t worry – teaching our clients’ all about all these things is probably the most important and most effective thing this program delivers!

If you are sick of the constant drain your chronic pain is having on your life, Empower Physiotherapy’s Chronic Pain Rehabilitation program will give you the tools you need to take back control.
